“Men fear thought as they fear nothing else on earth -- more than ruin, more even than death. Thought is subversive and revolutionary, destructive and terrible, thought is merciless to privilege, established institutions, and comfortable habits; thought is anarchic and lawless, indifferent to authority, careless of the well-tried wisdom of the ages. Thought looks into the pit of hell and is not afraid... Thought is great and swift and free, the light of the world, and the chief glory of man.” - Bertrand Russell

"We must realize that we can die at any time, we have only the present to be alive. If we surrender to the angel of death, we shall be happy forever. Why? Because the angel of death takes with him the past, so that life may go on. From each past moment we carry the dead part, and we continue living only in the present (...). These are the happiest moments of life: When your true self emerges, when you don´t care for the past and don’t care for the future". Dr. Miguel Ruiz.

“I am a physician and researcher graduated from Universidad de los Andes, with an MSc degree in Biological Sciences, focusing on epigenetics. I am interested in the study of the mechanisms that influence the predisposition to developing metabolic diseases, especially obesity, diabetes and their complications. I am particularly interested on how these conditions disproportionately affect remote regions and aboriginal or indigenous communities. My fields of interest are cardiovascular health, epigenetics, metabolic memory, polygenic risk scores, metabolomics, genetic engineering and the maintenance of cell identity.”
